Kand Falcons have roped in Pathum Nissanka for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League. The 2022 season of the tournament is all set to begin on the 31st of July. In the Falcons team, the right-handed batter will join countrymen Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne.
The top-order batter is presently placed eighth in the ICC's Men's T20I batting rankings, the highest among all Sri Lankan batters. Nissanka, one of several brilliant Sri Lankan players, is a promising prospect who amazed everyone with a match-winning maiden century in the recently finished ODI series against Australia.
Nissanka joins the franchise ahead of the third season of the LPL and will compete with numerous other promising players such as Kamindhu Mendis, Dewald Brewis, and Matheesha Pathirana. With Wanindu Hasaranga and Carlos Brathwaite in the lead, the squad possesses the right blend of youth and experience. The owner of the Kandy Falcons welcomed the newcomer to the squad and claimed that he will be an asset in the upcoming competition.
"Pathum’s inclusion will not only strengthen our batting but his recent experience playing in the Sri Lanka T20 team will be a huge asset to the team. I am sure the fans will be happy to see him in action for Kandy Falcons in the LPL," Kandy franchisee owner Parvez Khan said to Newswire.
Nissanka, meanwhile, was forced out of the second Test against Australia after testing positive for Covid-19. Oshada Fernando was named as Covid's replacement, having previously replaced Angelo Mathews in a similar situation in the first Test.
The Lankan Premier League season 2022 will begin on July 31st and finish on August 21st. The event will be held at two different venues: the MRICS in Hambantota and the RPICS in Colombo.
