On Thursday, July 22, India saw a historic moment when Draupadi Murmu, who joined politics as an Odisha councillor, was chosen as the country's second woman and the first tribal person to hold the office of president. By a comfortable margin of more than 63 per cent votes, the NDA's nominee won the election.

India will have its youngest leader on July 25 when the 64-year-old takes the oath. She will be the successor to Ram Nath Kovind. She will also be the country's first president born after Independence. The politician joined the Brahma Kumaris, an organisation she embraced after losing her husband, two kids, mother, and brother within six years, from 2009 to 2015. They practise meditation, and the politician is said to be skilled user of their techniques.

When she was chosen as a BJP councillor in the Rairangpur Notified Area Council in 1997, her political career officially got underway. She made her way up to become a minister in the BJD-BJP coalition government of Odisha from 2000 to 2004. Prior to being appointed governor of Jharkhand in April 2015, she served as district president. She stayed in this role till the end of 2021.

She has worked in the fisheries, transportation, animal husbandry, and commerce ministries of the government of Odisha, giving her a broad variety of administrative expertise. The new President has made significant contributions to the growth of both Odisha and the nation as a whole, making her the ideal choice for the position.

Many wishes were posted on Twitter, and the Indian cricketing community also wished the newly elected President well in her future endeavours. Among the several other well-wishers were Sachin Tendulkar, Mithali Raj, Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh.

"Smt. Draupadi Murmu Ji’s journey of progress despite personal hardships can inspire people across all walks of life. Heartiest congratulations on being elected the next Hon. President of India. Wishing the best of health & happiness to outgoing Hon. President Ram Nath Kovind Ji," Tendulkar wrote.
