Team India are going to begin their cricketing assignments on 3 January 2023 at home. They will face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series first. Then, they will play a three-match ODI series. However, KL Rahul is not going to be a part of the T20I series. But, he will be back for the ODI series.

KL Rahul had a forgettable 2022 year for team India. First, he made a comeback after several injuries in the ODI series in Zimbabwe. After that, he also failed in the Asia Cup campaign. Rahul smashed only one fifty against Afghanistan. Then, in the 20-20 World Cup, Rahul managed only 128 runs in six innings including two fifty-plus scores.

After that, he took a rest from the New Zealand tour. Then, KL Rahul made a comeback in the ODI and Test series in Bangladesh. In the three-match ODI series, he scored only 95 runs. Then, in the Test series, he also led team India in absence of Rohit Sharma. However, the Men in Blue won the series by 2-0. But, as a batter, he failed to score significantly. In that series, Rahul scored just 57 runs in four innings. So, fans were not happy with the batting form of this batter. Even, some fans demanded the exit of this player from the playing XI.

Now, in 2023, the Men in Blue will face Sri Lanka at home. Senior players like KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma will not be a part. They will be back in the ODI series. However, Rahul also left the vice-captaincy as Hardik Pandya has been declared the deputy of Rohit Sharma. As per reports, KL Rahul has been granted this leave for his marriage with his girlfriend, the Bollywood actress, Athiya Shetty. Recently, they were seen in a photoshoot, and from there, a video has now gone viral. In that video, Rahul was seen struggling to have food in his mouth and fans found it funny.
