It seems like the omission from the playing XI of the World Test Championship 2023 final is still hurting the veteran Indian all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin. World’s number 1 Test bowler talked bluntly in an interview with the Indian Express. He expressed all of his feelings after the snub and also briefed about the attitude of the current generation players in the dressing room environment.
Now, Ashwin has come up with another bold statement while he drew a comparison between the current regime of the Indian team to the former skipper MS Dhoni. The 36-year-old modern-day great also took a sly dig at the current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. He categorically mentioned the ‘sense of security’ issue for any player in the team during a particular regime including a coach or a captain.
Here's what Ravichandran Ashwin said on the 'sense of security concern for a player
“It is understandable that there's a furore in India that we haven't won an ICC trophy in 10 years. I empathize with the fans. But the reaction on social media is that this player should be dropped and that player should be included. But the quality of a player doesn't change overnight. A lot of us talk about MS Dhoni's leadership. What did he do? He kept it very simple. Under his regime, where I also played, he will pick a squad of 15. The same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughout the year. That sense of security is very important for a player,” said Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.
Apart from that, in an interview with the Indian Express, Ashwin also slammed the people who termed him as an ‘overthinker’. He categorically mentioned the reasons that lead an individual to overthink.
"A lot of people marketed me and positioned me that I am an overthinker. A person who will get 15-20 matches on the go doesn’t have to be mentally overthinking. A person who knows that they will get only two games will be traumatized and will be overthinking because it’s my job. It’s my journey. So this is what suits me. If somebody is going to tell me, ‘You’re going to play 15 matches, you will be looked after, you will be this, you are responsible for players, you are in the leadership role, I won’t be overthinking. Why would I?" said Ashwin to the Indian Express.
