Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan have recently registered for the second season of the Lanka Premier League. The Indian all-rounder had recently announced his retirement from the international format. After his retirement, Yusuf returned to the field during the Road Safety World Series 2020-21. The 38-year-old all-rounder hit some big shots and helped India Legends win the competition. Mitchell McClenaghan, Nicholas Pooran, Mahmadullah, Sherfane Rutherford, Ravi Rampaul, David Wiese, and Calum Ferguson are the other names that have made themselves available for the league.

South African white-ball skipper Temba Bavuma has made himself available for the tournament. Two of South Africa's leading spinners, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, are also planning to participate in the league.

The second season of the LPL will be played from July 30 to August 22

The first season of the LPL was conducted last year, from November 26 to December 16. The tournament was a massive success. It managed to get top foreign cricketers like Andre Russell, Kyle Abbott, Shoaib Malik, and Dale Steyn. Jaffna Stallions won the tournament's inaugural edition as the team defeated Galle Gladiators in the final match on December 16.

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik was the Man of the Match for the final game for his all-round brilliance. Malik scored 46 runs and picked up two wickets. Thisara Perera's led-side defeated Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in a one-sided final. Danushka Gunathilaka had ended up as the leading run-scorer with 476 runs from 10 matches. On the other hand, Jaffna Stallions' Wanindu Hasaranga took the most wickets in the inaugural season (17).

The Sri Lanka cricket board announced that the second season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will take place from July 30 to August 22. The competition will feature five teams. This includes Colombo Kings, Dambulla Viiking, Jaffna Stallions, Galle Gladiators, and Kandy Tuskers. The tournament is going to take place in a bio-secure environment based on the directives of the Health Ministry in the country. As a safety measure, all 23 matches of LPL 2020 were at the same venue - the MRIC Stadium in Hambantota.
