Mumbai have had a horrendous outing in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. The most successful franchise in the history of the tournament, Mumbai are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. In their first eight matches, they couldn’t register a single win this season.
Rohit Sharma and Co., though, won their last match against Rajasthan by 5 wickets and, thereby, registered their first win of this season. Skipper, Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great season with the bat. The openers were guilty of not giving solid starts at the top. The likes of Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah also have failed to hit the straps.
With not much experience in the middle-order and in the spin department, Mumbai have given opportunities to some young talents this year. The likes of Tilak Varma, Dewald Brevis, Hritik Shokeen all got opportunities and, to the team’s delight, all of them lived up to the expectations.
Amidst all that, the fans are eager to see when Mumbai are going to hand Arjun Tendulkar his debut cap. Ahead of Mumbai’s next game against Gujarat, head coach Mahela Jayawardene shared his thoughts on the possibility of the side handing a debut to Arjun Tendulkar.
"Well, I think everyone is the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups.
"Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win and it is about stringing wins together and get the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination that we put out," Mahela Jayawardene said.
Arjun Tendulkar is part of the Mumbai franchise in the ongoing edition of the tournament. He was part of the team last year as well but is yet to make his debut for the franchise in the cash-rich tournament.
