The Pakistan Super League has kicked off with the inaugural match between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. The match was an exciting thriller owing to the brilliant performances of players from both teams. But apart from the action of the match, the inaugural day of the PSL 2023 caught the eyeballs of the cricketing fraternity for something else.

The local media reports have learned that the floodlights of the stadium caught the fire from the fireworks during the inaugural ceremony of the tournament. But fortunately, no mishap was reported and the fire fighting team got the control over fire quickly to avoid further chances of any more damage.

But this incident just on the opening day of the PSL drew a lot of reactions from the cricket fans and they took no time in humiliating the Pakistan Cricket Board and PSL. Fans took to Twitter to mock PCB with trolling remarks.

Talking about the action of the first match of the season between Lahore and Multan at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on Monday; the hosts’ skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and asked Lahore Qalandars to bat first. The opening pair of senior batters Fakhar Zaman and Mirza Baig provided a strong foundation to Lahore with a partnership of 61 runs for the first wicket in 7.2 overs.

Fakhar Zaman scored 66 runs off 42 balls with three fours and five sixes to his name. Whereas, After Fakhar’s dismissal, his opening partner Mirza Baig also contributed with a knock of 32 runs with five boundaries on his credit. Lahore managed to post a total of 175 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Later on, while chasing the target, Multan’s veteran opening pair of Shan Masood and skipper Mohammad Rizwan stitched an amazing partnership of 100 runs in 12.2 overs. Rizwan played an amazing knock of 75 runs with eight boundaries and a six.  He was accompanied by Shan Masood, who scored 35 runs with four boundaries.

But the luck wasn’t in the favor of Mohammad Rizwan’s men as they fell only 2 runs short of the target and lost the match by 1 run scoring 174 runs in the given 20 overs for the loss of six wickets. Eventually, Lahore’s Fakhar Zaman won the ‘player of the match award’ for his match-defining.
