South Africa head coach Mark Boucher hinted that AB de Villiers might be a part of the national team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. The mega-event is going to take place in India later this year. The Proteas batsman has retired from all forms of international cricket. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman has continued to play in various T20 tournaments across the globe. Mark Boucher has disclosed that there is a chance of the batsman making a comeback in the game's shortest format for South Africa.
In 228 ODI games, AB de Villiers amassed 9,577 runs at an average of 53.5 and a strike rate of 101.1. He is also the only batsman in ODI format to have completed a trio of 5,000-plus runs, 50-plus average, and over 100 strike rates in his career. In 169 IPL matches so far, he has scored 4849 runs with an average of 40.4 and a strike rate of 151.9. In 2017 ABD waived from captaining the national limited-overs teams, and in May 2018, he hung his boots from all formats of international cricket.

Mark Boucher went to reveal that he had a talk with ABD before he left for the 14th IPL season. The right-handed batsman is presently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021. Mark Boucher further added that the South African batsman is very much eager to prove himself at the IPL. De Villiers commenced the 14th season with a great inning against Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the season. He scored 48 runs from 27 deliveries, showing all his class during a thriller match. His performance helped the Bangalore-based franchise prevail in a tight encounter with the Mumbai franchise. The Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match against MI by two wickets.
Talking about South Africa, the national side is currently playing a 4-match T20I series against Pakistan at home. Babar Azam-led team has already taken a 2-1 lead in the three T20Is so far. However, the South Africa national team is without their key players Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, David Miller, and Quinton de Kock. These players have reached India and are presently playing for their respective IPL teams.
