In a major development, Deepak Chahar is set to miss out on the majority of ITL, if not in its entirety. This is a huge problem for the Chennai team, as they have always relied on him in the past. This year too, Chahar would have been their primary fast bowler.
In the third T20 match, Deepak Chahar suffered from a quadriceps tear as he hobbled in the middle of his second over. He looked in a lot of pain as he was taken off the field in between the match. The ITL is set to begin on the 26th of March. However, Chahar will need at least a few weeks to recover and play in the match.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Chahar is now undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The Chennai squad is yet to get confirmation on his condition from the academy. They are hoping that Chahar will be available to them as soon as possible. He gets them a lot of wickets in the powerplays, putting a lot of pressure on the opposition.
Chennai will now have to find a suitable replacement for him in their squad. They do not have many replacements for the pacer. Chennai does not have many options for Indian bowlers, and Chahar was very important for them in this department. They do have some other players, but they lack experience.
Deepak Chahar was the second-most expensive purchase in this year’s mega auction, and he deserved it. Chennai spent more than ten crores on a player for the first time in auction history. He is a quick bowler who gets wickets in the powerplay as well as hits hard with the bat. He’s grown a lot as a hitter, and he has the numbers to show it.
