The southpaw has been a part of Delhi Daredevils in the 2011 season but failed to impress in the league. The Australian cricket team captured the ODIs but could not win the T20I series against India. However, there were several positive developments for the hosts throughout the three T20Is. Swepson picked up a three-wicket haul in the final T20I match. The wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade amazed the crowd with his fiery batting in the powerplay overs.

The 32-year-old received an opportunity to open the innings after captain Finch picked up an injury in the first T20I. The team management supported the keeper and he was made the captain of the side.

Wade enhanced himself and opened the innings with D'Arcy Short in the second match. The southpaw from Hobart fixed his spot in the team after registering two successive fifties. In the second T20I against India, Matthew Wade smashed 58 runs off 32 deliveries. The batsman continued his magnificent form in the third T20 as well as scoring 80 runs from 53 deliveries.

Wade surpassed his own record for the highest score by an Aussie wicket-keeper in T20Is. The Australian powered his team to a memorable win in the final game of the T20 series. The Tasmanian cricketer has represented Australia in the formats of the game but could not make it big in the IPL. Many cricket fanatics are wondering if Matthew Wade has ever been part of any IPL franchise.

Matthew Wade signed a contract with Delhi Daredevils in 2011

In 2011, a mega-auction took place as two new franchises joined the league. In that season there was a massive demand for the wicket-keepers. The Delhi Daredevils now known as Delhi Capitals signed Matthew Wade for 46 lakhs in the mega auction.

The Delhi-based franchise gave him three opportunities to showcase his talent, but the wicket-keeper could score only 22 runs at a strike rate of 66.67. The franchise released him and no team invested for the batsman after that season.

IPL 2021 can witness the joining of two new franchises. There are chances of another mega-auction because of the addition of the new teams. It will be interesting to see if Wade can get a bid in the upcoming auction.
