Mithali Raj biopic Shabaash Mithu to hit the theaters on July 15 2022

The release date for Mithali Raj's biopic 'Shabaash Mithu' starring Tapsee Pannu has been announced by the Indian Women's Team captain.

The Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj has risen to be one of the best in a game dominated by men. Her life has now been documented in a biopic starring Tapsee Pannu. The film is titled 'Shabaash Mithu'. The release date for the same has now been announced.

Shabaash Mithu, directed by Srijit Mukherji and written by Priya Aven, is due to hit the theatres on July 15, 2022. Mithali Raj also took to Twitter to share a new poster for the movie. Pannu appears spot on as Mithali Raj in the poster. The movie provides insight into the cricketer's career from a young hopeful athlete to the captain of the women's national cricket team.

"There is nothing more powerful than a girl with a dream! This is a story of one such girl who chased her dream with a bat and changed the "Gentleman’s Game" forever… #ShabaashMithu The Unheard Story Of Women In Blue will be in cinemas on 15th July 2022," read the caption.

Speaking about Raj's career, she has played 232 ODI matches for the Indian team in her career that is still going strong even after 20 years. She holds the record for most runs in the 50 over format. She has 7805 runs at an average of 50.7 in ODI cricket. Raj has also played 12 Test matches and 89 T20 matches, with 699 and 2364 runs respectively. She has numerous other feats to boast about. Mithali is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only woman to score more than 7000 ODI runs.

Meanwhile, the Indian film industry has seen a momentum shift towards sports biopics. Another film based on the life of Indian women's cricket team pacer Jhulan Goswami is under production. The film starring Anushka Sharma is titled 'Chakda Xpress'.
