Mohammed Siraj has been one of the most improved and promising cricketers for team India, especially in the 50-over format. Jasprit Bumrah is still recovering from his sustained injuries. So, fans were worried after the 20-20 World Cup as team India were looking to get prepared for the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

After that tournament, India played a T20I and ODI series in New Zealand. Siraj was the highest wicket-taker in the T20I series with six wickets in two matches, at an economy of 5.12. However, he was not a part of the ODI series. Then, he was in action again in the ODI and Test series in Bangladesh.

Mohammed Siraj has been a revolution in the 50-over format for team India

Mohammed Siraj took six wickets in three ODIs, at an economy of 5.28. Then, in the Test series, he grabbed six wickets in four innings, at an economy of 3.21. After that, he was a part of the ODI series at home against Sri Lanka. Again, he was the highest wicket-taker in that series with nine wickets in three matches, at an economy of 4.05. Recently, he performed again as Siraj took five wickets in two innings, at an economy of 3.50 in the ODI series. So, fans, both the former and active players have praised the bowler for his consistent performances.

After the second ODI, the Kiwi skipper, Tom Latham said: “Anytime that Siraj and Shami are in the side – they’re obviously quality bowlers, and as I said they were both relentless in terms of the lines and lengths they bowled and they gave us nothing to score from.” After the third ODI, while talking to Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar said: “In the post-match, he was hardly mentioned. Hardly talked about. But yes, when I have to look at 1 player who is promising a lot. One player whose growth has been phenomenal. I’ve used this term many times. He at the moment looks like a complete seam bowler. And that says a lot about any performer and not just this format. In T20Is and Test matches as well.” Now, on 25 January 2023, the Governing Body of Cricket updated the rankings of bowlers in the ODI format. As a result, Mohammed Siraj becomes the number-one ranked bowler in the 50-over format. He even managed a place in the ODI team of the year 2022.
