In a major development, Moeen Ali is likely to miss a few games for Chennai in the Indian T20 League 2022. As per reports, the all-rounder injured his ankle during a practice session on Saturday. Notably, he was dropped from the playing XI for the match against Mumbai on the 21st of April. This season, the men in yellow have already lost Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne to injuries.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Chennai is still waiting for scan reports. Even of the injury is a minor one, the English all-rounder is likely to miss out on a few games for Chennai. If he is unavailable, left-arm all-rounder, Mitchell Santner is expected to continue playing for the team. Santner played his first game of the season against Mumbai and batted at number three. He also bowled three overs in the match, conceding just 16 runs while picking a wicket as well. With the bat, he scored 11 runs off nine balls.

Chennai will next play their game against Punjab on the 25th of April at the Wankhede Stadium. They are presently ninth in the points table, having won only two of their seven matches thus far. To qualify for the playoffs, the Men in Yellow must win at least six of their next seven matches.

Meanwhile, Moeen Ali's performance in the Indian T20 League 2022 has not been stellar. Due to visa complications, he arrived in India late and missed the season's first game. The left-hand batter only scored 87 runs at an average of 17.40 in five matches this season. Even with the ball, has not yet taken a wicket in his eight overs. It is worth noting that Chennai retained Moeen Ali ahead of the 15th season. It was anticipated that he would play a vital role for the team this season.
