England all-rounder Moeen Ali has reportedly decided to quit Test cricket. Moeen wants to prolong his ODI and T20 career which is why he is keen on letting go the longest format of the game. The report further says that Moeen has even informed England coach Chris Silverwood and skipper Joe Root about his decision to retire from Test cricket.
The report came amidst speculations of several England players not keen on travelling to Australia for the Ashes later this year due to stern COVID-9 protocols. The pandemic and bubble life has been very hard on the players. Recently, England all-rounder Ben Stokes decided to take an indefinite break from Test cricket citing mental health issues. It’s unlikely that the restrictions will be eased out anytime soon thus many senior players are mulling over either taking a long break from Test cricket or even quitting the format altogether.
Also, many payers recently have tested positive despite being in the bubble which may lead to even stricter restrictions in the coming series.
Moeen is currently in UAE, playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the second leg of IPL. He will then participate in the T20 World Cup. The southpaw has been a great servant for England in Test cricket. He is just 84 runs and five wickets away from joining an elite list of players with 3000 runs and 200 wickets in Test cricket.
