Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram stated that Mohammad Amir should be in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad. The veteran believes that his inclusion in the team will be beneficial for the Men in Green. In December 2020, Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 29. His retirement had created a lot of rumpus in the entire Pakistan cricket fraternity. However, Amir withdrew his retirement and lashed out at the management. The pacer reckoned that until and unless the current team management is present, he won’t be making a comeback in the team. In the meantime, Wasim Akram has urged the national team management for keeping Mohammed Amir on the sidelines regarding selection in the team.
Retiring from Test cricket was his own business: Wasim Akram
Mohammed Amir, who has quit Test cricket, plays for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. In the league, Wasim is the head coach and director of the franchise that Amir plays for. Akram stated that if Amir had opted to retire from Test cricket, it was his own decision, and no one should take offense to that. Since last year, Mohammed Amir had not played for the national team when he had a fall out with the Pakistan team head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and bowling coach Waqar Younis. The pacer stated that he would not play for the national team until they remain in charge.
With the situation in India deteriorating due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s a possibility of hosting the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). But, according to Wasim Akram, Pakistan could have the edge if the competition occurs in the gulf country.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir is currently in England and is likely to continue his stint in franchise cricket. The veteran seamer will be seen in action representing Karachi Kings in the second half of the sixth season of the Pakistan Super League. Amir featured in five games before the season was postponed due to COVID-19. In those games, he had scalped four wickets at an average of 38.75, an economy rate of 7.75, and a strike rate of 30. The T20 tournament eventually began on February 20. Only 14 games had been conducted before the COVID cases were reported. After the completion of PSL, he will join Kent in this season’s Vitality Blast. The 29-year-old will also be a part of the maiden edition of The Hundred later this year.
