Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has been removed as Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president. The apex council stated that he has been accused of taking arbitrary decisions and corruption. It was known that the Apex Council terminated Mohammad Azharuddin due to pending cases against him. The Council has also suspended his membership and issued a show-cause notice to former Indian cricketers.

After taking over the HCA, there has been a constant murmuring as several members have alleged Azharuddin for taking unilateral decisions without consulting the panel. The Apex Council has delivered a show-cause notice to the veteran Indian batsman. The notice states that he would remain under suspension until the completion of his inquiry on the accusations against him.

Azharuddin to face harsh consequences if he did not develop a proper explanation within a week: Apex Council

The show-case notice stated that the decision to terminate the veteran was taken at the meeting held on May 25. In the notice, it was mentioned that Mohammad Azharuddin is the mentor of a private cricket club in Dubai. It seems that the club also takes part in a T10 tournament which is not recognized by the BCCI. It should also be noted that Mohammad Azharuddin worked as the mentor of the Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 League earlier this year. Furthermore, the notice stated that he had frozen the HCA account and also questioned the appointment of the Ombudsman, which has been termed as illegal.

Despite serving as the Hyderabad Cricket Association President for almost 20 months, Azharuddin’s tenure has been marred with many controversies. The 58-year-old is yet to comment on the concern, and it remains to be seen if he opines in public following his sacking from the position. The Apex Council also mentioned that Azharuddin would face even more harsh consequences if he did not develop a proper explanation within a week of receiving the notice. The notice was issued on June 15.

Taking about Azharuddin’s cricketing career, he has scored 9378 runs in 334 ODIs at an average of over 36. In Tests, he has amassed 6215 runs and also scored 22 centuries and 21 half-centuries. Azhar is the only cricketer in the world to score centuries in his first three Test matches. He is also the first player to touch the 9000-run mark in ODIs.
