Delhi Capitals had a rare loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last game. Rare because the franchise were looking dominant enough to breeze past KKR. The loss would no doubt have hurt them but considering the larger picture, DC still occupy the second spot with 16 points on board.
DC’s next game is against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday (2 October) and they would hope to get back to winning ways. If the Rishabh Pant-led DC secure a victory against MI, they will become the second team after CSK to qualify for the playoffs. Mohammad Kaif, assistant coach of DC said that the team’s main goal would be to win the match and not focus on the top-two finish at the moment.
Strangely, DC batters failed to post a big score on board and were restricted to just 127 against KKR. Kaif wants the batting to step up and do well against MI. “The key focus for us in the match against Mumbai Indians will be our batting. Whether we bat first or second, we have to bat well. Mumbai is a great team to play against. All the players are always excited to play against Mumbai Indians,” said Kaif in a virtual press conference.
Kaif concluded by saying that the team has performed well this season, with different players stepping up and delivering the goods. “We have performed well collectively this season. Different players are stepping up in different matches and situations. We are lucky to have so many match-winners, and hopefully, someone will stand up for the team again in the match against Mumbai,” he added.
