Mumbai and Gujarat locked horns in the tournament opener of the first-ever edition of the historic Women's T20 League. The hosts Mumbai completely outmuscled Gujarat in the first match of the tournament and started their campaign with a massive win by a margin of 143 runs. The five title winners in the men's Indian T20 League, Mumbai played completely to their stature in the Women's T20 League's opener as well.
Gujarat skipper Beth Mooney won the toss and asked Harmanpreet & co. to bat first at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. This decision completely backfired for Gujarat as the Mumbai girls posted a mammoth total of 207 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Later on, Mumbai bundled up Gujarat only on the score of 64 runs to register possibly the biggest win of this entire season of the Women's T20 League. The cricket fans were also ecstatic in the aftermath of Mumbai's sensational win. They took to Twitter to come up praising tweets for Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai and also appreciated the performance of skipper Kaur herself.

Speaking of the entire action of the match, Mumbai couldn't get a good start in the first innings as they lost Yastika Bhatia only on the team's total score of 15 runs. But afterward, another opener Hayley Matthews played a crucial knock of 47 runs off 31 balls with 3 boundaries and 4 sixes to her name.
Later on, the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur herself led from the front and played a blistering knock of 65 runs off just 30 with 14 boundaries on her credit. Her partnership with Amelia Kerr (45 runs off 24 balls) helped Mumbai to reach a total of 207 runs in the 20 overs.
While defending the target, the Mumbai bowlers didn't give a single chance to Gujarat's batting lineup to survive in the match; by bundling them up only on the score of 64 runs in 15.1 overs. Saika Ishaque ended up being the star by scalping four wickets conceding only 11 runs in 3.1 overs. Other than her, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr also scalped two wickets each alongside one wicket taken by Issy Wong.
Eventually, Mumbai won the fixture by 143 runs having skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as the 'player of the match for her match-defining heroics.
