Players now look to not just stay at the crease, but also get as many runs as possible. Furthermore, T20 cricket has a significant impact on how players approach other formats. The following batters have scored the most runs in a single over in Tets cricket.

Shahid Afridi- 27 runs vs Harbhajan Singh, 2006

In the first innings of the 2006 Lahore Test against India, Pakistan was already in a good position. Shahid Afridi, who batted at number six, smashed a swashbuckling 103-run knock of 80 balls. His innings included seven fours and seven sixes, propelling Pakistan to a massive total of 679 runs.

When Harbhajan Singh bowled the Test match, Afridi was batting on 63 from 63 balls with Pakistan on 578/5. Afridi hit a six on the opening ball, then sixes on the following three balls to make it four maximums in a row. Afridi scored 27 runs in the over to help Pakistan reach 600 runs.

George Bailey tied the world record for most runs scored in a Test match over when he took England pacer James Anderson for 28 runs off 6 balls in an Ashes match in Perth. He scored three sixes, two fours, and one double in the over. Australia went on to comfortably win the match.

Following Bailey's carnage, Australia had caused enough damage on England that Michael Clarke called in his batters, declaring the innings at 369 for six and setting England a mammoth mark of 504 to save the Ashes.

The Test match against South Africa was held at the Wanderers in 2003. The final over of the day, and Brian Lara wanted to make the most out of it before returning to the pavilion. He never let Peterson settle in with the ball in the over.

The first ball was hit for a four, followed by two sixes on the second and the third ball. More was in store for left-arm spinner Robin Peterson. Lara struck him for three more fours on the final three deliveries, taking the total to 28 runs in the over.

India skipper Jasprit Bumrah struck helpless Stuart Broad for 29 runs, breaking the world record for most runs off a single over in Test cricket by one run, topping the great Brian Lara's performance. Bumrah did not time the majority of his shots, yet he still obtained the desired outcomes.

Bumrah hit two sixes, and three fours and stole one single on the last ball to complete 29 runs with his bat. However, a four on a wide and a no-ball allowed India to add 35 runs in the over. Bumrah scored 31 runs in 16 balls in his short innings.
