Jasprit Bumrah continues to miss out on competitive cricket as he recovers from a back injury. However, recent reports suggest that the star India pacer will directly be available for the Indian T20 League; he is expected to join the Mumbai Franchise for the upcoming season of the premier T20 League of the country.
Whether the pacer plays or not, he is a major centre of attraction and discussion. Right now, the question is if he plays in the cash-rich Indian league, his workload management will be an essential part. The finals of the Global Test Championship are right after the Indian T20 League, and the ODI World Cup is scheduled for later this year.
Jasprit Bumrah to get NCA clearance before joining the Mumbai Camp
The Indian squads for the remaining two Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series and the subsequent ODI series against the Aussies did not include Bumrah. Per reports, he has not been permitted to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The pacer has only been in action in a few practice games organised in the facilities of the Indian Cricket Board in Bengaluru. However, the NCA experts have not given him the clearance for a national call-up.
Amidst all this, his workload management remains a big headache for the Indian Cricket Board. The Indian T20 League can be a physically demanding competition. However, in its history, there have been instances where foreign Cricket Associations have supplied NOCs asking the franchises to refrain from forcing bowlers to bowl more than 24 deliveries in the nets, refrain from forcing them to play a certain number of games straight, and routinely check their players’ fitness levels.
A similar compromise may be worked out for all bowlers, if not only Bumrah. The Indian Cricket Board have announced that they would monitor his situation closely.
