The action returned in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 with St Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals clashing in the second game of the tournament. The match saw the Kings post an impressive 201/6 in 20 overs after electing to bat first. Skipper Faf du Plessis with 46 off 32, including four fours and two sixes, and Sean Williams with 47 off 30, including three fours and two sixes remained the key contributors.

Talking of the bowling from the Royals, Jason Holder returned with figures of 4/38 in four overs. While Qais Ahmad with 2/35 followed him. All other bowlers remained wicketless. In the Royals’ reply, they could only manage 147 before being bundled out in exactly 20 overs. Nyeem Young with 48 off 39, including a boundary and four sixes remained their highest-scorer. Matthew Forde with figures of 3/12 remained the best bowler for the Kings. At the same time, Chris Sole, Alzarri Joseph, Sikandar Raza, Khary Pierre, Roston Chase, and Shadrack Descarte scalped one wicket each to ensure that no bowler from the Kings’ dug out returned wicketless. Matthew Forde was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning spell of 3/12 in four overs.

Chris Sole’s direct hit caught Cornwall short of his ground

However, a specific incident caught the eyes of the spectator. In the very first ball of Barbados Royals’ innings, their opener Rakheem Cornwall, the heaviest cricketer in the world, was run out in a hilarious fashion. He flicked the first ball onto the fine-leg fielder who was inside the ring. Chris Sole, who was fielding at the fine leg grabbed the ball in the second attempt and unleashed an accurate throw towards the non-strikers’ end. It was a direct hit and Cornwall, limited by his fitness seemed to be jogging between the wickets. The hilarious moment made for huge laughter around the stadium.

Up next, in the CPL 2023, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Trinbago Knight Riders will be clashing in the third game of the league on Saturday, August 19.
