When Formula 1 arrived in India in 2011, the entire country came to a halt. It was a historic day for every motorsports fan in the country, and they left no stone unturned to ensure the event's success. Long lines formed as speed fans from across the country flocked to the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida to witness history being made right in front of their eyes.

The Indian Grand Prix was a huge success, and the circuit even received the 'Motorsport Facility of the Year' award at the Professional Motorsport World Expo 2011 after hosting its first-ever Formula One race. In the years that followed, the circuit hosted two more races. The last time India hosted a global race of this magnitude was in 2013.

Several attempts to reintroduce the Indian GP to the motorsports calendar have failed since 2013. But, after a decade of waiting, India is finally set to host a major race, this time the Moto GP. The organisers announced on Friday that India will host its first MotoGP race in 2023 (Sep 30). The race will be known as the Bharat GP and will be the 14th race on the MotoGP calendar.
