One of the most favourite IPL team, fans’ favourite and three-time IPL Champion Chennai Super Kings is going through a rough phase during this IPL 2020. Even its captain, the veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni is dealing with the backlashes of fans and critics.
After a three-match loss, CSK finally registered a 10-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab. Dhoni commented that their win was the result of sorting the small things in the squad. CSK’s win came after the unbeaten opening partnership by Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis. They have scored 83 and 87 runs respectively. Their partnership helped CSK chase the target of 179 much easily on Sunday.
Post-match Dhoni commented, "I think we did the small things right. That's what was important to us. The kind of start we got in batting, that's what we needed. Hopefully we'll be able to replicate this in the coming games."
To the fans, it looks like Shane Watson has found his lost form after he suffered many failures in the recent matches. When asked about what he thinks about Watson, Dhoni explained that he thinks that batting of Watson is not about being aggressive. At the nets during practice, Watson was hitting the balls decently and he just needed to maintain his calm and so the same thing on the crease.
About Faf du Plessis, Dhoni exclaimed that he is like a sheet anchor for the entire team. He continues playing the shots in the middle of the cricket field. When he is in his form, he can always puzzle the bowler with his lap shots. Watson and Faf complement each other on the field.
MS Dhoni credits the head coach Stephen Fleming
Dhoni even said that Chennai Super Kings banks on stability in selection. And Stephen Fleming, the head coach, is the primary reason for it.
According to Watson, who received the Man of the Match award, something was not right technically with his team in the matches they played earlier.
"It was nice for it to come off. Just a combination of technique and intent. Was able to get the weight through the ball a lot better. Faf and I complement each other well. There are bowlers he (Faf) prefers to take on, he's a great guy and (it was) good batting with him."
In the interview, Du Plessis expressed as well the hope that CSK stays in the good form; they were on Sunday throughout the tournament now.
KL Rahul, the KXIP skipper, said being on the losing side is hard. However, he promised and hoped to keep trying harder along with his side.
