The International T20 Cup is all set to get underway from October 17. Among the top title contenders are the Virat Kohli-led team India. The Men in Blue have not won a World title since their win in the International Champions Cup in 2013. Since then, they have reached the knockouts of four world tournaments but have failed to get their hands on the title. The team will be keen to end their title drought in the upcoming event.
They received a massive boost when it was revealed that former India skipper MS Dhoni will be part of the contingent as a mentor for the International T20 Cup. Now, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has revealed that MS Dhoni is not charging any honorarium for his services.
“MS Dhoni is not charging any honorarium for his services as the mentor of Indian team for the T20 World Cup,” CricketNeXT quoted Jay Shah.
Fans and experts were jubilant after the development came to light. MS Dhoni is known to have a sharp mind and his presence in the Indian dressing room will do wonders to team India. Speaking about Dhoni’s appointment, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal had said, “He (Dhoni) has been a great leader. Under his captaincy, India won the inaugural World Twenty20, the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups, the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Records are amazing. It is really great to have him as a mentor of the team (for the ICC World Cup).
“He has a good reputation and respect in the team, and also bringing him doesn’t mean to undermine anybody. They have also done a phenomenal job,” CricketNext quoted Dhumal.
The Indian players, except those who are playing the IPL have joined the bubble. The team play their first game on October 24 against Pakistan in Dubai.
