On Thursday, Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets. They registered their fifth win of the season with the help of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fifty and Ravindra Jadeja’s stunning short innings.
CSK started slowly while chasing the target of 173 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shane Watson shared a 50-run partnership playing 44 balls together. Varun Chakravarthy picked the wicket of Watson. Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu then added 68 runs off just 37 deliveries and put CSK in a strong position.
However, KKR dismissed Rayudu and MS Dhoni one after another. CSK score went from 118/1 to 121/3, and soon after, to 140/4 when Pat Cummins dismissed Gaikwad for 72. Ravindra Jadeja played an amazing inning of 31 from only 11 deliveries and sealed the game on the final ball of the game. With 7 runs required off the last two balls, Jadeja smashed Kamlesh Nagarkoti for two sixes, and CSK won the game.
KKR piled up 172 runs in 20 overs. Nitish Rana scored 87 runs and became the top-scorer for KKR. He played 61 balls to score 87, which included ten fours and four sixes. For the first wicket, Rana added 53 runs with Shubman Gill to give KKR a decent beginning.
During the middle overs, KKR struggled to keep up a decent pace and score runs. However, they ended up emphatically to set up a decent aggregate. The two-time IPL champions scored 66 runs in the last 5 overs. Dinesh Karthik scored 21 from just 10 balls and took CSK score over the 170-run mark.
MS Dhoni praised Ruturaj Gaikwad after the match
Talking at the end of the game, the CSK captain praised Ruturaj Gaikwad. MS Dhoni termed the batsman as 'one of the most talented youngsters’. The previous India captain was additionally pleased with how Ruturaj has grabbed his chances in the IPL 2020 tournament after a difficult beginning to his stay in the UAE.
“Ruturaj has shown the talent that he is. He came in and got positive with Covid. We didn’t have much time to have a look at him. He is one of the talented youngsters going around,” said MS Dhoni.
“He is not someone who speaks a lot. Once you go inside, you are the only one handling the pressure. When we made him play the first game, he stepped out and got out. But one ball is never enough. I think it is very exciting how he has grabbed his chances. It is very important to be relevant in the tournament. It was very important for us to give it our best,” he added.
