MS Dhoni is currently getting prepared for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. He will be seen playing for his Chennai franchise. However, Dhoni has moved the Madras High Court in order to initiate contempt proceedings. He also issued a summons to IPS officer G Sampath Kumar for his alleged statements against the Supreme Court.
The former Indian captain issued summons to certain senior counsels in the matter pertaining to match-fixing. Meanwhile, the court has listed the case. But, on 4 November 2022, it did not get heard. All this case is based on a civil suit Dhoni filed in 2014.
The court restrained Sampath Kumar from making any statement against MS Dhoni
The former Indian skipper filed a civil suit in 2014. The motive behind that civil suit was to permanently restrain Sampath Kumar, then Inspector General of Police from making any statement linking him (Dhoni) to match-fixing and spot-fixing of matches. He asked the court to pay ₹100 crores directly to him towards damages.
After that, on 18 March 2014, the court passed an interim order that restrained Sampath Kumar from making any statement against Dhoni. But, still, Sampath Kumar allegedly filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court. It contained disparaging remarks against the judiciary and the senior counsel representing the State in the cases against him. In December 2021, the matter came to the notice of the Madras High Court. On 18 July 20222, MS Dhoni obtained consent from Advocate-General R Shanmugasundaram to file the contempt application.
So, the former Indian skipper preferred to punish Sampath Kumar for his alleged acts of making remarks against the judiciary on 11 October 2022. Sich action from Dhoni was completely based on the violation of the court's interim order passed in 2014. Speaking about MS Dhoni’s stance on his Chennai franchise, he has cleared his opinion on the retaining of Ravindra Jadeja. As per reports in Times of India, MS Dhoni has said that no other player can replicate what Jadeja can do at number 7 and his value in home matches at Chepauk. So, Jadeja might end up staying at the Chennai franchise for the next season of the Indian T20 League.
