Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of India, underwent successful surgery on his left knee on Thursday in a hospital in Mumbai, increasing his chances of competing in the 17th Indian Premier League season in 2024. After the final on Monday, Dhoni took a flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, where he saw renowned sports orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. Pardiwala is a member of the BCCI medical panel and has operated on numerous of the very top Indian cricketers, which includes Rishabh Pant.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan spoke to the PTI about Dhoni’s surgery where he revealed that the CSK skipper was recovering well. He said, “Yes, Dhoni has had a successful knee surgery at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. He is doing fine and the surgery happened in the morning. I don’t have details. I am yet to get all the details about the nature of surgery and other things.”
Another source told PTI the procedure Dhoni will follow to be back in the IPL next season. The source revealed that “He has already been discharged from hospital and he has gone back to Ranchi. He would be resting for a few days at home before his extensive rehabilitation starts. It is now expected that he would have enough time to get fit to play in the next IPL.”
As per sources, Dhoni will be released from the hospital following an "arthroscopic repair" keyhole procedure today. When Dhoni looked totally great when wicket-keeping the entire season, he occasionally chose to bat from as low as No. 8 and didn't appear to be in his element while sprinting between the wickets.
Viswanathan had stated on Wednesday that it will entirely be Dhoni's decision whether to get surgery. Dhoni spoke after winning his fifth IPL title, he said, “If you circumstantially see, it’s the best time to announce retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season.”
