Former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh congratulated some of the players selected for the series against the West Indies. The Indian squad was announced on 26th January. The all-rounder took to Twitter and congratulated chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, all-rounder Washington Sundar, all-rounder Deepak Hooda, and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who he thought were deserving of a place in the team.
Kuldeep Yadav has been in and out of the Indian team. He did get a chance to play in India's tour of Sri Lanka last year but did not play after that. He also didn't play a lot of matches in the Indian T20 League. However, he was recalled to the side to give a variety to the Indian attack.
Deepak Hooda selection surprised many. The all-rounder has been playing domestic cricket for a long time now. His skills to contribute with both bat and ball got him into the reckoning, especially with BCCI looking out for all-round options in place of Hardik Pandya.
Washington Sundar is back on the Indian side after a long wait. He suffered from an injury during India's visit to England, which also cost him a spot in the 20-20 World Cup. He got a place against South Africa but was replaced by Jayant Yadav as he tested positive for COvid-19. However, he is now back in the team.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been on the Indian side for a while but has not had too many chances in the playing XI. With Rohit Sharma returning to the team, the competition for the opening spot has become even tougher. There is a possibility he might not start in the playing XI yet again. However, Yuvraj is happy that he is in the team. Sooner or later, he will get an opportunity to play for India in ODIs.
The ODI series will begin on the 6th of February at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The T20 series will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
