Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians locked horns in the 46th match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The visitors’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the flip of the coin and asked the hosts to bat first.
Punjab Kings posted a big total of 214 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 20 overs which was chased down comfortably by Mumbai Indians, later in the second innings. Eventually, Rohit Sharma’s men won the match by six wickets and registered the fifth win to their name in the nine matches they played so far.
But apart from the action of cricket on the field, both the franchises Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians were involved in an amazing and hilarious banter on the micro-blogging site Twitter. Just after the dismissal of MI skipper Rohit Sharma on a 3-ball duck.
Here's a look at the tweet posted by Punjab Kings:
PBKS wrote ‘RO’ mocking Rohit for his duck in the match against the hosts. Although it didn’t go down well with the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and they couldn’t hold it from giving it back to Punjab. MI came up with an amazing tweet posting the record of the trophies won by skipper Rohit Sharma and compared those with Punjab Kings.
Here's how Mumbai Indians responded:
Rohit Sharma 🏆 x 6️⃣
— Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) May 3, 2023
KXIP 🏆 x 0️⃣
PBKS 🏆 x 0️⃣#Respect
“Rohit Sharma 🏆 x 6️, KXIP 🏆 x 0️, PBKS 🏆 x 0️,” wrote Mumbai Indians taking a hilarious dig at Punjab Kings for not winning a single trophy throughout the 15 seasons of the Indian Premier League.
Coming back to the action of the match, the star batter Liam Livingstone played a swashbuckling knock of 82 runs off just 42 balls with seven boundaries and four sixes to his name. Other than him, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma also scored 49 runs off just 27 balls with five boundaries and two sixes.
But their knocks went in vain as the star MI duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan stitched an outstanding partnership of 116 runs for the third wicket and helped the visitors to chase down the target by scoring 216 runs for the loss of four wickets in 18.5 overs. SKY and Kishan scored 66 and 75 runs respectively followed by a quick cameo of 26 runs off just 10 balls from Tilak Varma to win the match by six wickets.
