Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tilak Varma had a memorable T20I debut on Thursday against West Indies at the Brain Lara Stadium, Trinidad. The left-handed batter kick-started scoring in some style as he slogged Joseph for a six-over deep mid-wicket on the third ball of the fifth over.

After taking a stunning catch in the first innings, the 20-year-old batter continued to impress on his T20I debut as he opened his scoring with back-to-back sixes against Alzarri Joseph. The Hyderabad-born batter walked out to bat after opener Ishan Kishan walked back in the fifth over of the Indian innings with the team's score at just 28.

Tilak Varma scores his first runs with a six

Tilak Varma had a sensational domestic season and Indian Premier League (IPL) as well, which earned him a call for the national team. Varma batted at No. 4 in his maiden encounter at the top level for the Men in Blue, and after playing a dot ball against Obed McCoy in the fifth over of the run chase, he got off to a flying start with a massive six on the leg side.

On the third delivery of the sixth over of the Indian innings, he smashed Alzarri Joseph for a six, followed by another six on the fourth ball. Joseph was caught off guard when Varma struck him for a maximum on the very first ball of his international career, and his stunned response drew everyone's attention.

During the first match, the left-handed batter faced a total of 22 balls and scored 39 runs at a strike rate of 177.27. In his first inning with the Men in Blue, he hit three sixes and two fours. His efforts, however, were in vain, and India was humiliated by four runs. The world's top T201 team fell short of the aim of 150 runs. They only managed 145 runs in 20 overs for the cost of nine wickets.

For the hosts, all-rounder Jason Holder put on a spectacular performance with the ball, dismissing two Indian batsmen for 19 runs in four overs, earning him Player of the Match awards.
