Tilak Varma has been one of the most impressive youngsters in the Indian T20 league 2022 so far. A lot of pundits and experts have gone on to speak about his potential. The Mumbai-based management must have seen something special in him as they purchased him for INR 1.7 crore during the mega auction.
So far, he has lived up to the expectations after having played impressive knocks against Delhi and Rajasthan. He scored a brilliant knock of 61 runs off 33 balls in the last game against Rajasthan. It came at a whopping strike rate of 184.85 and included three fours and five sixes. Although Mumbai ended up on the losing side, Varma won a lot of hearts.
He recently drew light on his family, and their financial struggles. While speaking to Cricbuzz, Varma stated that they still don't own their own house. He revealed that he plans on buying a house for his parents with the money he earns in the Indian T20 league 2022.
“Growing up, we’ve had a lot of financial difficulties. My father with his meagre salary had to look after my cricket expenses as well as my elder brother’s studies. In the last few years, with some sponsorship and match fees, I could just about take care of my cricketing expenses.
We don’t own a house as yet. So with whatever I have earned in this ITL, my only aim is to get a house for my parents. This ITL money gives me the luxury to play freely for the rest of my career,” said Tilak Varma.
In the meanwhile, the talented batter also spoke about the reaction of his parents during the mega auction. He stated that his mother got emotional. Varma also said that he was on a video call with his coach during the auction, and even his coach got emotional as and when the bids went higher.
“The day the IPL auction was going on, I was on a video call with my coach. My coach started tearing up when the bids kept going higher. After I was picked, I called up my parents. They too started crying over the call. My mother was struggling to get words out,” he added.
