Team India are currently busy playing the two-match Test series in Bangladesh. On 14 December 2022, the first match began in Chattogram. This series is crucial for the Men in Blue in order to get qualified for the final of the World Test Championship. However, before this series, India dealt with a blow.

Skipper Rohit Sharma missed the match due to the thumb injury he got during the ODI series in Bangladesh. Therefore, KL Rahul became the captain and Cheteshwar Pujara was his deputy. Speaking of the match, Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first. For India, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill came out to bat first.

India defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test

However, it was not a great start from the top-order batters as India lost all three wickets for 48 runs. KL Rahul scored 22 runs off 54 balls while Gill scored 20 runs off 40 balls. Virat Kohli also failed as he scored one run off five balls. Then, Cheteshwar Pujara scored 90 runs off 203 balls. Along with him, Rishabh Pant scored 46 runs off 45 balls and Shreyas Iyer scored 86 runs off 192 balls. Hence, their innings ended with 404 runs in 133.5 overs. In reply, the home side got bundled out for just 150 runs in 55.5. Kuldeep Yadav made a remarkable comeback as he picked up five wickets for 40 runs in 16 overs.

Team India had a lead of 254 runs and a chance to enforce the follow-on. But, they decided to bat again. In India’s second innings, they declared after scoring 258 runs for two wickets. Shubman Gill scored his maiden ton (110 runs off 152 balls) in the Test while Pujara also end his century drought after scoring 102* off 130 balls. Thus, they gave a target of 513 runs to the home side. But, Bangladesh showed a great fight and finally fell short. Team India won the match with ease as they bundled out them on 324 runs in 113.2 overs. The Men in Blue won the series opener by 188 runs and made it 1-0 with one more match to go. Kuldeep Yadav won the player of the match award for his overall performance.
