Lucknow and Mumbai locked horns in the 26th game of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The latter won the toss and elected to field first. On the other hand, Lucknow openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock stitched a partnership of 52 runs in 5.3 overs. The keeper-batter (24 off 13) was trapped lbw by Fabian Allen, who was playing his first game for the Mumbai-based franchise.

Manish Pandey, who made his comeback to the team after missing a few games, played a decent knock. He scored 38 off 29 balls, which included six fours. The Karnataka batter stitched a partnership of 72 runs with his skipper. The former was clean bowled by the leggie Murugan Ashwin with the scorecard reading 124/2 in 13.2 overs. After the wicket, Rahul took the initiative of scoring the bulk of the runs in a partnership of 31 runs with Marcus Stoinis (10).

Stoinis was dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat as the all-rounder was caught by Ishan Kishan. Deepak Hooda came in and scored 15 off eight balls. Meanwhile, Rahul notched his third century in the cash-rich league. He remained unbeaten on 103 and helped the team reach a total of 199/4. In reply, the five-time winners had a poor start as their skipper Rohit Sharma's poor form continued. It was Avesh Khan who dismissed him.

Dewald Brewis came and tried to up the ante with 31 off 13 and hit six fours and one maximum. He was caught by Jason Holder off Avesh Khan in the last over of the powerplay. Kishan, who was struggling at the crease with 13 off 17, was dismissed the seventh over. At 57/3, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma (26) stitched a partnership of 61 runs before the latter's stumps were disturbed by a yorker from Holder. Yadav (37) followed the next over as the batter couldn't hit a half-tracker from Ravi Bishnoi, and was caught by Krishnappa Gowtham.

Allen (8) couldn't do much in his first game as he was caught at short third man by Dushmantha Chameera. Jaydev Unadkat (14) came in and kept the hopes alive with his strokeplay and bought the equation down to 26 needed off six. He got run out on the first ball of the last over. His team then lost the game by 19 runs as Kieron Pollard couldn't get himself on strike rate for the entire over.
