In a remarkable showcase of cricketing excellence, the Indian cricket team started their journey at the Asian Games 2022 with an impressive triumph over Nepal. This helped them secure a spot in the competition's semifinals. However, the contest was far from one-sided. Surprisingly, Nepal displayed remarkable determination, ultimately falling to India by a margin of just 23 runs.

The standout batting performance in India's innings came from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who delivered a century. Rinku Singh concluded the innings with an explosive 37 runs from just 15 balls. These exceptional displays garnered significant attention. As a result, it prompted former Indian opener Virender Sehwag to share his insights on social media regarding the composition of the Indian team.

He took to Twitter and wrote, "I just feel we have too many batters who play in the same gear. Need to nurture more explosive players who can play top gear, especially in T20 cricket. Many more in the Rinku and SKY mode needed to become a dangerous side."

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained the star of the show

Jaiswal's scorching century propelled India into the Asian Games semifinals, but Nepal's cricketers exhibited remarkable promise, displaying fearless determination even in their 23-run loss. The rising star of Indian cricket etched his name as the country's youngest T20I centurion with a stunning 49-ball 100, which contributed to India's strong total of 202 for 4.

The Himalayan team put up a spirited fight, yet their lack of experience ultimately proved to be their downfall, as they concluded their innings at 179 for 9. This ensured a spot in the last four for Ruturaj Gaikwad's squad.

The Nepalese side, under the guidance of coach Monty Desai, deserves immense credit for their performance. The smaller ground dimensions favoured them and exposed the vulnerabilities of two Indian pacers, Arshdeep Singh (2/43) and Avesh Khan (3/32), who conceded 75 runs in their combined 8 overs. Team India will now play the semifinals of the Asian Games 2022 at Hangzhou on October 6. Notably, the Women’s team has already won the Gold Medal in the women’s edition of the same event.
