Neeraj Chopra, who won the men's javelin throw gold in the Olympics in Tokyo, put up yet another strong performance on Thursday to guarantee his place in the World Athletics Championship final. The Olympic champion was in Group A at Hayward Field and broke the qualifying mark of 83.50m with a throw of 88.39m on his first try. The Indian star dropped on his second and third attempts.

The qualifying cut for the men's javelin throw competition finals in Oregon in 2022 is set at 83.50 metres, or the top 12 finishers. The conclusion of Group B of qualifying, which is expected for later in the day, will be followed by the formation of the final cut list.

Neeraj Chopra, who won silver in the Stockholm Diamond League earlier this year after setting a national record of 89.94m, set the tone for Group A with the first throw of 88.39m. He recorded the third-best throw of his career with this one.

Jakub Vadlejch, the silver medalist from Tokyo, was the only other thrower in Group A to surpass the qualifying mark with an effort of 85.23m, which was also his first throw.

Neeraj beat his own national record and won silver earlier this month at the Diamond League competition in Stockholm. During the competition in Stockholm, the broke his own national record which he had set on June 14 by throwing 89.94 metres. Neeraj threw the javelin 89.30 metres to win the silver medal at the Pave Nurmi Games in Turku.

The Olympic champion is currently in preparations for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. The mega is scheduled to begin on the 28th of July.
