Wagner has attained 849 points now, making him only 55 behind Pat Cummins, who currently tops the ranking list. On the other hand, WI Test captain Jason Holder has slipped to the 7th spot, behind SA bowler Rabada and Australian bowler Mitchell Starc.

As per the rankings, Stuart Broad is now 3rd on the list, with 845 points to his name. No 4 on the list is New Zealand bowler Tim Southee, with 817 points to his name. IPL 2020 Purple Cap winner and SA bowler Kagiso Rabada are 5th on the list. The Proteas bowler, as of now, has attained 802 points in total. Following him on the list is Aussie bowler Mitchell Starc, who has 797 points. No 7 on the list is Jason Holder with 787 points to his name. The 8th, 9th, and 10 spots are occupied by James Anderson, Jasprit Bumrah, and Josh Hazlewood respectively.

Wagner and Holder were both parts of the 1st Test match in the ongoing WI tour of NZ. However, Wagner and Holder did not have anything in common in the Test Match. Holder did not manage to pick up a single wicket in 31 overs. In stark contrast, Wagner picked up 6 wickets in just 28.5 overs, dismantling the West Indian batting line-up.

Wagner’s past record for 2 years

Neil Wagner is well known to bowl an exorbitant amount of bouncers. The 34-year-old played just one match this year before playing the 1st Test against West Indies. It was against India back in January, wherein he picked 2 wickets for the Kiwis.

His 2019 stats actually show us why he is currently the 2nd best Test bowler. In 6 Test matches, Wagner bagged 43 wickets, with an outstanding average of 17.81. Moreover, he also picked up 4 five-wicket hauls for himself, showing how instrumental he has been for the Kiwis.

Only 2 bowlers, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon bagged more wickets than the New Zealand bowler. To put it in context, they participated in twice the number of Test games Wagner had participated in. He has been so good that even Steve Smith, the no 1 Test batsman, was nothing but praises for him. Smith recently stated that no one can imitate the way Wagner bowls. Wagner and Holder will be back in action in the 2nd Test match. The match is set to take a course on December 11.
