COVID-19 has changed human life's very existence. The long lock-downs and the unknown fear of getting infected by the disease have restricted life to homes. Life has become dull and monotonous without any entertainment. The announcement of the 13th version of the Twenty 20 cricket extravaganza, the Indian Premium League (IPL 2020), certainly has brought relief not only to cricket fans but also to everybody.
IPL is set to unfold from September 19th in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this 53-day tournament, around 70 matches will be played, including practice matches during the period. The partners which are to get held at noon will start at 3.30 pm IST, and evening games will begin at 7.30 pm IST. The games will get played in different places that are in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
Total eight teams will take part in the tournament:
- Mumbai Indians
- Chennai Super Kings
- Delhi Capitals
- Kings XI Punjab
- Kolkata Knight Riders
- Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Rajasthan Royals
- Royal Challengers Bangalore
This time, an Indian company based in Mumbai will be the title sponsor for IPL 2020, thanks to the exit of the earlier title sponsor Vivo, which was a Chinese concern.
As per news reports, it has been decided not to have real spectators for this mega event as officials of both the countries have found it too risky to have crowds inside the stadium given the raging COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, there would be LED screens in the stadium that can connect the fans from various places, which would enable them to watch the live-action and enjoy the match sitting at home. Apart from screens, there is a perfect live telecast arrangement on the small screens across the globe by BCCI with Star- Sports.
Teams arriving in Abu Dhabi will get quarantined for 14 days in the hotels
The IPL 2020 teams have already started reaching at different venues in UAE 20th August 2020. The norms and new standard cricket rules get strictly followed. Members of the other groups arriving in Dubai got isolated at their hotel rooms for seven days, during which they get required to undergo three COVID tests. Only after confirming their adverse reports will they be allowed to go for their practice games. On the opposite, teams arriving in Abu Dhabi will get quarantined for 14 days in the hotels. This is as per the COVID protocol applicable there, which has reportedly upset a few team members.
Protocols followed at Abu-Dhabi are strict due to the Coronavirus situation. There are travel restrictions too between Abu-Dhabi, and Dubai or Sharjah. Although the match schedule has not yet got announced on the official website. The reliable resources first could be played between Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings, but no clue as yet of the venue.
Cricket fans and revelers in India are eagerly waiting for the new standard IPL 2020 to unfold in their homes. It will be with all its grandeur and glitz from September 19th to November 10th when the ultimate finals get played.
