New Zealand Cricket Board has recently announced their 15-member team for the WTC final against India. The match is scheduled to start on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and wicketkeeper-batsman BJ Watling are both going to be a part of the WTC final. Both the players had missed the second Test match against England at Edgbaston due to injuries. Kane Williamson was ruled out due to an elbow injury, whereas a back injury sidelined BJ Watling. Tom Blundell, who had featured in the Edgbaston Test, has been included in the WTC squad as a cover for BJ Watling.

Matt Henry and Ajaz Patel selected for the WTC final

NZ wicketkeeper-batsman BJ Watling has decided to retire from international cricket after the World Test Championship final against India. The 35-year-old is New Zealand's most successful Test wicket-keeper, with 257 dismissals, 249 catches, and 8 stumpings. Additionally, Watling has also taken ten catches as a fielder. The Kiwi wicket-keeper batsman has represented New Zealand in 73 Tests. He has also scored 3773 runs at an average of 38.11. This also includes eight hundred and 19 fifties. His career-best score of 205 came against England in Mount Maunganui in November 2019. BJ Watling has also played for New Zealand in 28 ODIs and five T20Is.

The NZ team is going to go into the clash with one specialist spinner Ajaz Patel and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme. Talking about the selected squad, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that Ajaz Patel, who picked up four wickets in the second Test against England, can be of great importance in Southampton. On the other hand, Will Young is going to be their specialist batting cover.

Matt Henry, who performed brilliantly against England, has also been selected alongside the pace unit of Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Neil Wagner. Devon Conway and Ross Taylor have also been picked in the squad and are determined to shine against India as well. The main spotlight is going to be on Kane Williamson as he would be coming off from an injury.
