Team India’s journey came to an end in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 on 10 November. They lost to the eventual winner, England in Adelaide. Now, the Men in Blue will kick off a three-match T20I series in New Zealand. The series will start on 18 November as Hardik Pandya will lead in the absence of big players.

However, some new faces have been added to the squad. So, fans are eagerly waiting to see them in action. Some players are there who can be a vital options for the team in the upcoming days. Their performances can help them in earning a place in the next 20-20 World Cup in 2024. 

Here are three players from the current T20 squad of the New Zealand vs India tour who can play in the 20-20 World Cup in 2024:   

1. Shubman Gill

This batter got his maiden call-up in this shortest format of the game for team India in this tour. Shubman Gill had a great season for the Gujarat franchise in the last season of the Indian T20 League. He scored 483 runs in 16 matches. In the ODI format, he has already impressed everyone in the ODI format.

Gill won the man of the series award in both the ODI series in Zimbabwe and the West Indies. In the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Gill scored 260 runs in six innings, at an average of 52. he also smashed 126 runs off 55 balls for Punjab against Karnataka in the tournament.    

2. Umran Malik

This star pacer came into the limelight in the last edition of the Indian T20 League. For the Hyderabad franchise, he took 22 wickets in 14 matches. In this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Umran Malik took eight wickets in seven matches, at an economy of 8.08. However, team India did not take him into the equation for the 20-20 World Cup.

Many former cricketers were critical of the Men in Blue for not considering him for the mega event. So, now, he can show his class to the selectors and fans on this tour. His performance can help him to achieve a place in the current bowling unit of team India. Thus, he might end up playing for India in the upcoming 20-20 World Cup.  

3. Shreyas Iyer

This star batter can impress his fans on the New Zealand tour. Shreyas Iyer missed India’s squad for the 20-20 World Cup in 2022. In the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Iyer scored 173 runs in six innings, at an average of 28.83. He also smashed 73 runs off 44 balls in the semi-final against Vidarbha.

Eventually, Mumbai also became the champion of the tournament. In the last season of the Indian T20 League, Iyer scored 401 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 30.85. So, based on his current form, it will be a great time for this batter to perform for the Men in Blue. Such form can help him to earn a place in the next 20-20 World Cup.
