Neymar is currently busy playing for his club, Paris Saint-German in domestic and European competitions. However, his main aim will be to do well in the next World Cup for his country, Brazil. However, the Brazilian star could face a huge setback as he could face five-year prison. A Brazilian investment company, named DIS has expressed that they want the football star behind the bar.

Neymar needs to stand trial next week on charges of fraud and corruption over his transfer to Barcelona. He joined Barcelona from Santos in 2013. Neymar, his parents, Barcelona, and its former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, as well as Santos and former president Odilio Rodrigues, are the defendants in the trial.

"Neymar's rights have not been sold to the highest bidder" - DIS lawyer Paulo Nasser

While speaking in a news conference in Barcelona on 13 October, DIS lawyer Paulo Nasser said: "Neymar's rights have not been sold to the highest bidder. There were clubs that offered up to €60m."

During that transfer, the final figure was €57.1m according to Barcelona. Out of that, Neymar’s family received €40m. DIS then received a 40% share of the remaining €17.1m. But, now the investment company believed that they lost a substantial cut from the transfer. Clubs understated the true value of the deal in order to give less amount of money to them.

In response to that, Baker McKenzie opened as the lawyer from the Neymar Family. He said that Spanish courts "lack jurisdiction to prosecute the Neymar family and their company N&N". Brazilian nationals committed these acts outside Spanish territory. Even, the alleged crimes are not punishable in Brazil. He also mentioned that the footballer and his family have been charged with "corruption between private individuals." But, it would not be applicable as Neymar himself "is not a service or a commodity". Now, Neymar has to attend the trial on 17 October 2022. However, his parents, Rosell and Bartomeu, will start their testimony on 21 October 2022.
