The final ODI in the India vs South Africa series got underway on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Proteas openers Janneman Malan and Quinton De Kock walked out to the middle to give a blistering start to their team.

However, the Indian bowlers were in full mood to seal the series as Washington Sundar picked up the wicket of star batter Quinton De Kock giving South Africa their first wicket at the score of 7. Mohammed Siraj also got into the act quickly removing Malan and Reeza Hendricks in back-to-back overs.

South Africa were under extreme pressure following the early blows. The Indian spinners took full advantage of the situation and spun a web around the Proteas batters. Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar didn’t allow any batter to settle in as they kept chipping away with wickets.  South Africa lost half their side on the score of 66 and were desperately looking to rebuild their innings.

However, all their hopes were shattered as wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav also joined the party and added wickets to his tally. He picked up the wickets of Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, Bjorn Fortuin, Anrich Norje and cleaned up the entire tail of the opposition.

Courtesy of Kuldeep’s magical spell of 4/18 in four overs, South Africa failed to even reach the mark of 100 and got all out for 99. This is South Africa’s fourth-lowest total in their ODI history and also their lowest-ever ODI total against India.

Only three South African batters could manage to reach the two-figure mark. Heinrich Klaasen emerged as the highest scorer of the innings with the score of 34 off 42 balls. Thanks to a stupendous effort by the bowlers, India are on the verge of winning the ODI series by 2-1. The ‘Men-in-Blue’ were whitewashed by the Proteas 3-0 in January in South Africa. This is also South Africa’s first ODI series loss in India since 2010.
