Rahul Dravid stated that all the youngsters for the Sri Lanka tour would look to make a mark on the limited opportunities that they will get. India is going to play 6 white-ball games against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Rahul Dravid is eager to get the boys ready and is also aiming to get the most out of them to strengthen India's bench before the T20 World Cup.
The Indian cricket team will be led by senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be his deputy. India's regular players are currently in England for a five-match Test series. Thus, the BCCI named many youngsters for the 3-match ODI and T20I series. Youngsters like Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Varun Chakravarthy, and Chetan Sakariya will get an opportunity to test their grit in international cricket.
The Sri Lanka series is going to start with the ODIs on July 13
In a press conference, Dravid stated that it would be a difficult task to ensure game time for every player. However, he believes that the youngsters will still look to make the most of whatever opportunities they get. The Indian cricket team is traveling to Sri Lanka with a squad of 20 players and the support staff. Dravid will coach the young players on the tour in the absence of Ravi Shastri, who is currently in England.
The Sri Lanka series is going to start with the ODIs from July 13, followed by T20s from July 21. The upcoming three T20s in Sri Lanka will hold more importance than the ODIs. The T20 games will be the last set of international matches India will play before the T20 World Cup. The Indian cricket team is anticipated to leave for Sri Lanka on June 27 after mandatory 14-day isolation. After reaching the island nation, the Indian team will have to undergo a three-day soft quarantine. Team India will also play a couple of intra-squad matches after landing in the Island nation. All six games are going to be played at R Premadasa stadium in Colombo.
