The old "Big Four" are set to unite with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal on Team Europe at the Laver Cup 2022. The fifth edition of the competition will take place from September 23 to 25 at London's O2 Arena, featuring Bjorn Borg's European team against John McEnroe's Team World.
Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon winner, will compete at the Laver Cup for the first time since it was staged in Chicago in 2018. For over two decades, the four players have dominated men's tennis, winning 66 of the last 76 Grand Slams. They also have won each Wimbledon title since 2003.
"It's the only competition where you can play in a team environment with guys that you're normally competing against and to be joining Rafa, Roger and Andy -- three of my biggest all-time rivals -- it's going to be a truly unique moment in the history of our sport," Djokovic said, as quoted by NDTV Sports.
The tournament's official Twitter handle also confirmed the announcement on Friday. "The Big 4 are in for London. Djokovic will join Nadal, Murray and Federer as teammates to defend the Laver Cup on Team Europe at The O2," read the tweet.

To complete the six-player Team Europe roster, two roster places are still pending announcement. In contrast, Taylor Fritz from the US, Diego Schwartzman from Argentina, and Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada make up McEnroe's Team World at this time. In the meantime, Team Europe is aiming for a fifth straight victory at the three-day competition named after Rod Laver.
Former world number one Borg was also excited to see the Big Four play together. He said: "I don't think I could have imagined having these four icons of the sport on one team together. I know they, like I, appreciate the significance of this moment and will be truly up for it. Each year our goal is to win. With Rafa, Roger, Andy and Novak on the team, I like our chances."
