Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya missed the key ODI World Cup 2023 game versus New Zealand. This was due to the injury he suffered versus Bangladesh in Pune. As per latest reports, the 30-year-old is also set to miss the game against England on Sunday.

Suryakumar Yadav had replaced the 30-year-old to make his ODI World Cup debut against New Zealand. The Indian bowling seemed to struggle in Pandya’s absence for the major part of the game. This latest news will no doubt worry a lot of Indian cricket fans and the team management as well.

Meanwhile, defending champions England will play Sri Lanka on Thursday before locking horns with India. During the ODI World Cup 2019, the English had beaten India in a must-win game. During the 2022 T20 World Cup India had lost to England by ten wickets in the semi-finals.

In a massive setback to the Indian cricket team and its fans, Hardik Pandya may miss the game against England on Sunday. The game is to be played in Lucknow on the 29th of October. A win will guarantee India a place in the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Hardik Pandya had injured himself while trying to stop a Litton Das straight drive in Pune. This has reportedly done a slight damage as Hardik Pandya’s ligament has suffered a slight tear.

There is also speculation rife that the 30-year-old could also be in doubt for the game in Mumbai versus Sri Lanka on the 2nd of November. If that happens to be true then Hardik Pandya will link up with the Indian squad in Kolkata for the game versus South Africa. The two heavyweights of the tournament are set to play on the 5th of November.

As per a source, who spoke to news agency PTI, “Hardik is still under medication. While the swelling on his left ankle has subsided considerably, he will start bowling only towards the weekend. Right now, important is to give him time to recover,"

With Lucknow likely to aid spin India might decide to sacrifice Mohammad Siraj in order to play Ravichandran Ashwin. The veteran spinner hasn’t played for India since the opening game against Australia where he picked 1/28 from his ten overs.
