In a nail-biting thriller against Afghanistan, Australian batter Glenn Maxwell shocked the cricket world with his amazing batting performance. With blistering hitting abilities, Maxwell produced an iconic double century that will go down in cricket history for decades. When the Aussies were in trouble with a loss of seven wickets while chasing 292 runs, Maxwell hammered an iconic double century to win the game.

 

In his inning, Maxwell scored an unbeaten 201 runs off 128 balls with the help of twenty-one fours and ten sixes. He also added a 202-run partnership with skipper Pat Cummins for the 8th wicket. It is the highest-ever partnership in ODI cricket from the 8th or lower wickets. However, in this partnership, Cummins contributed just 12 runs off 68 balls with the help of a boundary.

 

Maxwell's knock is also the highest run scored by an Australian batter in the history of the ODI World Cup. He also became the first Australian to score a double century in men's ODI cricket. However, with this win, Australia qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing tournament. They became the third team after India and South Africa to qualify for the next stage.

Tendulkar took to Twitter and said, "A wonderful knock by @IZadran18 to put Afghanistan in a good position. They started well in the second half and played good cricket for 70 overs, but the last 25 overs from @Gmaxi_32 were more than enough to change their fortune. From Max pressure to Max performance! This has been the best ODI knock I've seen in my life. #AUSvAFG." 

 

It's worth noting that after this game, Australia will face the Netherlands at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on November 12. The game will be the last league game for the five-time World Champions. Team management might look to test bench strength ahead of an important semifinal clash. Australia is likely to face South Africa in the second semifinal at Eden Gardens on November 16.
