In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, the defending champions failed to live up to the mark as they were defeated by India by a huge 100-run margin. However, after this defeat, the English team is facing huge criticism from around the globe as their chances to qualify for the playoffs go thinner day by day.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan skipper and star pacer Shoaib Akhtar slammed England. The veteran pacer said that England's Bazball approach is good for Test cricket but fails in ODIs. He said that the team needs someone to build the innings. "India have beaten England very badly," Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

Here is the video:

"England got defeated badly because they are playing such a brand of cricket that they are bringing T20 cricket into ODIs. There is no planning on who will build an innings, who will play at a run-a-ball, who will construct an innings, and who will slog", he further added. It's worth noting that the majority of English players threw their wickets while trying to go aggressive against premium bowlers.

"I am feeling sorry", Shoaib Akhtar expresses his feelings after the game

Further speaking about England's chances to qualify for the playoffs, Akhtar expressed his disappointment. He said, “I am very sad to see England heading out of the World Cup. Bazball is fine in Test matches, but you have to play an ODI like an ODI.” It's worth noting that after this loss, the qualification scenarios for England have become intense.

However, the defending champions will be looking to end their campaign in the top 7 instead of the top 4. If they fail to do so, they will lose the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025. The top seven teams will join hosts Pakistan in the prestigious tournament, and if England fails to win the next three games, the team will be out of the Champions Trophy 2025.
