Virat Kohli claims best fielder medal

Australia defeated India by six wickets, in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. Travis Head scored a century in the final of the tournament. The Men in Blue have lost their second ODI World Cup final since 2003. The last time they lost was also against Australia in Johannesburg, South Africa. Rohit Sharma’s side has played an excellent game of cricket and one bad game cannot define their performance in the rest of the tournament.

The Men in Blue dressing room was fully emotional, as all the players were heartbroken after the loss. They started a new trend of giving a medal to the best fielder of each game in the tournament. T Dilip fielding coach announced Virat Kohli as the best Fielder award for outstanding performance in the final. There were no loud roars when the former India skipper’s name was announced.

He was presented by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Kohli took a catch of David Warner in the slip during the game. Kohli was named as the man of the tournament for his exceptional performance in the competition scoring 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95.62, scoring three centuries and six half-centuries.

India loses another final

Rohit Sharma after the loss said, “I mean the result hasn't gone our way and we know that we were not good enough on the day. But proud of the team. It wasn't supposed to be. Honestly, 20-30 runs would've been good. I thought when KL and Virat were batting, we were looking at 270-280 at that point and we kept losing wickets. Australia stitched a big partnership after losing three wickets."

"With 240 on the board, we wanted early wickets but credit to Travis Head and Marnus. They put us completely out of the game and I thought the wicket got better to bat under lights. I mean we knew under lights, it would be better but don't want to give that as an excuse. We didn't bat well enough, but credit to those two guys in the middle for stitching that big partnership."
