Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been in brilliant form with the bat in recent times in all formats. He is currently playing in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka and has maintained his form in the series. In the ongoing first Test match at the Galle International Stadium, the star batter scored a century to resurrect his team amidst a batting collapse.

Babar walked in to bat in Pakistan's first innings when the team lost two wickets for a team score of just 21 runs. He then played an innings of a lifetime. While wickets kept falling on one end, he stayed strong on the other. He went on to complete his 10000 international runs during this innings. It took him just 228 innings to reach the landmark. He beat surpassed Virat Kohli to become the fastest Asian to achieve this feat.

The team skipper eventually completed his century with a single in the 85th over of the innings. He was finally dismissed by Maheesh Theekshan in the 91st over on a score of 119 runs in 244 balls. He hit 11 fours and two sixes in his outstanding innings. Pakistan scored 218 runs, handing a four-run lead to Sri Lanka in the first innings.

Earlier, the home team had scored 222 runs in the first innings, with Dinesh Chandimal in command. He carried on his great form from the previous series, scoring 76 runs in 115 balls. No other batter could do much in the game. Shaheen Afridi got four wickets for Pakistan, Hasan Ali and Yasir Shah each took two, while Naseem Shah and Mohammad Nawaz each took one.

In the meantime, Twitter was all praises for Babar Azam. "Sri Lanka had Pak on the mat but Babar Azam was not going to take such ignominy lying down. Marvellous century by the captain who rises in stature with every innings," Cricket journalist Ayaz Memon wrote. "Master craftsman; Babar Azam superb once again," Ian Bishop tweeted.
