Openers who are already part of the Test Squad should get a chance to play: Salman Butt

In a recent YouTube video, former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt backed Kapil Dev's statement that additional players should not be sent to England. It would be an insult to the openers who are already present in the team.

There have been reports that Indian team management wants Prithvi Shaw or Devdutt Padikkal to replace Shubman Gill. Gill was ruled out to play in the Test series following a stress fracture in his shin.

Salman Butt stated that asking for additional openers is not necessary as the Test Squad already has many options. The openers present in the squad should get the first chance. There are more than 14-15 players on the team and the options present are enough. Butt agreed with Kapil Dev that no extra player should be called to England for the upcoming Test series.

He further explained that calling someone outside of the squad would stress the players mentally who are already present. It would make them doubt their form and capabilities. The management should show their confidence in the players already in the squad. They were selected to tour England in the first place and should get to play first.

The Indian team management does not need to ask for an extra opening player: Kapil Dev

In a recent interview, Kapil Dev criticized the Indian team management for asking for extra opening options. They have no reason to do that with many players already present in the team.

The team management should respect the selectors and the players they have chosen. The players were not chosen without the consultation of Kohli and Shastri. The squad has good opening batsmen in Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. They do not need a third option. The ones who are already present should get the chance to play instead of Gill. Otherwise, it is insulting for the players who are already present in the team.
