In the last few months, South Africa's rising star Tristan Stubbs has been having a great time. Early this year, he did well on the A tour of Zimbabwe. His performance caught the eye of the Mumbai franchise from the Indian T20 League. It is to be noted that they were looking for a replacement for Tymal Mills. The left-arm pacer was injured and had been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

Stubbs came in at a time when the team was ruled out of the playoffs spot. He did play two games and scored as many runs. During the Proteas tour of India, the right-hander made his international debut but didn't in the two games he played. However, in the first T20I against England on July 27, the 21-year-old walked out to bat for the first time at the highest level.

The wicketkeeper batter impressed the fans with an explosive 72 off just 28 balls including eight sixes and two fours batting at number six. His side was chasing a daunting target of 235 runs and was tottering at 86/4 in 9.4 overs when Tristan came out to bat. The former South Western district U13 player entertained everyone with the bat but didn't have any support from the other end to win the game.

The Green Brigade was restricted to 193/8, losing the game by 41 runs. Apart from Reeza Hendricks (57), none of the visiting team batters could create any impact in a run chase like this. Overall, apart from Hendricks and Stubbs, the entire team had a bad day. While bowling, only Lungi Ngidi created an impact with a five-wicket haul. Apart from him, everyone got whacked. Notably, Stubbs also bowled one over and was hit for 20 runs.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai fan club, which supported the team this year despite them finishing last in the points table, is happy with the performance of the play. They feel that the future of the five-time winners are in safe hands.
